Thomas Merton, Trappist monk and social activist of the 50’s and 60’s in his writing against the Vietnam War and for civil rights, also struggled with career/work decision making. He went through a difficult time at his Gethsemane Monastery as he found his work and the environment there, at times, less than fulfilling.
