Respite: A short interval of rest or relief

What we have once enjoyed, we can never lose.
All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.

“What we have once enjoyed, we can never lose.
All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.”
– Helen Keller

This quote was included in an obituary that crossed my desk at work. The person “lost” had been so loved that it was imperative to reiterate how their presence would never be lost due to the deep love felt for them.

We each desire to be loved deeply so our essence will never die. If this is what we wish for ourselves, may we take time now to remember the unique people who have become so integrated into our lives that it is their qualities and values we now live by. If these people are still with us, it might be a good time to send a “Thank You” note or give them a call saying, “I remember and I am grateful,” for gratitude is one of the greatest emotions to bring about healing and wholeness, both for others and for ourselves.
