Respite: A short interval of rest or relief

Enjoy the scenery while on a detour.

“The really happy person
is the one who can enjoy the scenery
when on a detour.”

Although we make the most detailed plans for our journey through life, it seems that detours consistently loom on the horizon. Suddenly the road we thought we were going to be on all the way to our destination, diverts onto another path entirely. Signs may assure us that we are traveling in the right direction, but we remain unconvinced because everything appears different than we imagined.

Therein lies the challenge – how to enjoy the scenery on a detour, when it is not the scenery we thought we’d be enjoying? Ah – to learn the art of instant appreciation, allowing ourselves the thrill of an adventure. Someone once shared with me that for any trip one takes, there are only two outcomes – either you will enjoy yourself immensely or you will have a great story to tell. May our ultimate goal be that both options occur simultaneously!
