Respite Reflections’ purpose is to help people push the “pause” button in their transition work — to take a break from the thinking, researching, networking and preparing for interviews. Taking a moment to center yourself, ponder a positive thought, and focus on a broader perspective is invaluable during a time of transition.
“A good heart is better than all the heads in the world.”
– Edward Bulwer-Lytton
Construction projects are time consuming, inconvenient and usually take longer than expected, but everyone finds a way of “making do” knowing that the finished product will make up for any adjustments that had to be made along the way.
We might think of ourselves as under construction when it seems that life is slowing us down and we are not progressing as we should. Perhaps then it is time to put our energies into constructing “a good heart,” a better heart, a heart more open to wonder and possibility, compassion and gentleness. Surely hearts like that – better than all the heads in the world – can help us hear a hopeful beat and even add one of our own.
