Respite: A short interval of rest or relief

“What we have once enjoyed, we can never lose.
All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.”
– Helen Keller

This quote was included in an obituary that crossed my desk at work. The person “lost” had apparently been so loved that it was imperative to reiterate that their presence would never be lost due to the love felt for them.

We each desire to be loved deeply so our essence will never die. If this is what we wish for ourselves, may we take time now to remember the unique people who we have so integrated into our “selves,” that it is their qualities and values we now live by. If these people are still with us, it might be a good time to send them a “Thank You” note or give them a call saying, “I remember, and I am grateful.”
