JOB SEARCH COURAGE is,
Mind and spirit overcoming fear,
Leading to productive activity,
Moving closer to meaningful work.
“Courage helps us accept what cannot be changed and to struggle through what needs to be changed… Courage empowers us to try again when there seems to be only repeated failure. Courage is never learned overnight. It results from long years of practice and patience. Being brave enough to face what life sends us.”
– Joyce Rupp from her book, Fresh Bread
Creative & Courageous Job Seeker Checklist
__Form clear, powerful goals; use language which sends specific messages to employers that you add value.
__Conduct real research; learn about organizational needs, culture and challenges, and integrate the knowledge into your networking questions. Engage in authentic networking; meet people genuinely as you seek knowledge and mutually valued relationships; networking is both giving and getting.
__Seek out valid informational interviewing contacts; commit to learning and not being a “job grabber”.
__Build fresh relationships beyond your existing groups and outside your comfort zone.
__Volunteer to contribute, produce, analyze, care, serve, teach, add perspective, review, and do the humblest of tasks for people — it makes a difference and you both learn and develop new relationships.
__Don’t go it alone—there are friends, mentors, colleagues, coaches and counselors who want and are able to assist you.
As you live the “checklist,” you’ll see yourself gaining clarity for your next work. There’s no feeling like it!
“It’s sensational what direction can do. The beauty of the human condition is the magic people are capable of when there’s direction.” Dan Burr, CEO People Express
