Free Workshop Series in Bridgewater NJ for Seniors and Their Family

Taking Care of Your Parents: Heartfelt Advice from the Experts
The Center for Life Transitions, in partnership with the Community Visiting Nurse Association and the Somerset County Office on Aging and Disability Services, invites community members to attend a free workshop series where leading elder-care experts will share their experience, wisdom, strength and hope with seniors and their families. Dona Lee Calabrese, marketing executive for the Center, explains the motivation for such a series, “The Center is committed to helping families at the crossroads. When we asked community leaders how we can best serve their clients, congregations, and colleagues, we kept hearing about the need for expert direction regarding senior care. We discovered that there are over 20 million people in the sandwich generation; meaning, adult children who are raising their own kids and caring for their aging parents. We saw an important opportunity to service the needs of this ever changing demographic,” says Calabrese.
These one and a half hour workshops will feature leading area experts who will provide a road map to navigate the emotional, physical, spiritual and legal avenues of caring for one’s aging parents. However, the advice and expertise is not just for the caretakers, but for those who are being taken care of. “We invite everyone – children, grandchildren, spouses, friends and extended family – to these workshops, knowing that the more people who have access to updated, expert advice, the more advantageous it is for everyone,” says Calabrese. Experts include elder care lawyers, authors, nurses and educators who are all experienced workshop leaders and appreciate the fact that participants want to leave with an “action plan”. They will be emphasizing step by step action plans, checklists and the like so people won’t be wondering “what should I do now”, and will leave knowing how to take the next steps. This is a valuable and efficient structure for distributing such important information.
“The Somerset County Office on Aging and Disability Services recognizes the need to support caregivers as they are the anchor to assisting their loved ones in remaining in the community with the best quality of life possible,” says Joanne C. Fetzko, Executive Director. “We welcome our new relationship with the Center for Life Transitions and value our continued relationship with the Community Visiting Nurse Association as we all support caregivers.”
While all of the workshops are free of charge, The Center for Life Transitions does request that participants reserve their spot as seating is limited. For a complete description of each of the seven workshops and to reserve your seat, please visit HeartfeltStrategies.com.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Milwaukee, Wisconsin – July 13, 2010 – “I want to say how grateful we are for your faithful support of the care we provide,” Sr. Edna Lonergan, OSF, President of St. Ann Center, expressed after receiving a donation from the Center for Life Transitions at the St. Ann’s Center in Bay View. She added, “This gift is a wonderful symbol of our continuing, exciting partnership with The Center for Life Transitions.”

Joe Ralston, massage therapist (left to right), Sandy Anderson, massage therapist, Sr. Edna Lonergan, president of St. Ann Center for Intergenerational Care, Dr. Tom Bachhuber, president of Center for Life Transitions, and Kathryn O’Dell, vice president of fund development, join Sr. Edna Lonergan as Dr. Tom Bachhuber presents St. Ann Center with a monetary gift of blessings in St. Ann Center’s indoor park in Milwaukee on July 13, 2010.
The two programs being supported through the gift include: The Buddy Program which trains at risk youths from Milwaukee to be health care assistants at the St. Ann Center, develops job, communication and personal nurturing skills. The youths provide care and personal interaction with the seniors through games, activities and conversation. Youths in the summer program learn career, social, educational and money management skills through classroom and on-the-job experience.
The Benevolent Touch Program provides Benevolent Touch National Instructor Certification training to participants on how to give safe and comforting care to people with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. The program also helps seniors with special needs like sensory loss and other physical or emotional disabilities. This program provides comfort and support to people who need belonging and security while reducing anxiety and loneliness.
The St. Ann Center applied for funding from the Center for Life Transitions in January, 2010 and receive notification of the award in June. The gift will allow St. Ann’s to enhance the quality of the programs as well extend them to more individuals. The missions of the organizations are similar in that they each provide support, care and education to individuals who are in transition – be it educational, personal, health or work related.
Sr. Edna Lonergan, OSF stated “The mission of the Center for Life Transitions works seamlessly with our own mission “to provide community-based health and educational services in meeting the spiritual, psychological, social and physical needs of all who participate regardless of faith, culture or ability to pay.”

Job Search Courage Bridgewater Workshop Recap
Dr. Thomas Bachhuber held the “Job Search Courage: Looking Inside & Out for Hope & Help” Workshop on May 25th. The goal of this workshop is to bring together creative ideas for resume writing, networking, personal branding and job seeking; and create opportunities to find new momentum in your transition.
Here’s some of the wonderful feedback we received from participants:
As a discouraged job seeker, I had the opportunity to attend a workshop conducted by Tom Bachhuber; Job Search Courage – Looking Inside & Out for Hope & Help in Bridgewater, NJ. In the last 3 years, I have been unemployed 3 times making the job search all the more difficult. I was at a stage of desperation when I received an email about Tom’s workshop. I found Tom to be a down to earth professional with the ability to address job seeking in unique, innovative ways. His approach allowed me to pull myself out of the “pit” and into the “light” of who I really am as a human being. He spoke of the courage and strength needed to pursue new opportunities. In the chaos of networking, sending emails and worrying about the future, Tom brought me back into focus.
One of the most important lessons of the workshop was that we don’t have to go it alone—there are resources everywhere including my spirit–which I need to better utilize. As someone who has always been self-sufficient, this guidance spoke volumes to me.
K.L., New Jersey
“I recently benefited from attending Tom’s workshop on “Job Search Courage – Looking Inside and Outside for Help”. Tom acknowledged the challenges in career transition, and he offered hope and thoughtful advice on a tactical as well as spiritual level.
The workshop encouraged participants to use a mix of transition strategies and inspired them to keep moving forward through challenges with faith and courage. Tom is very well read, speaks from experience, and understands the challenges of job search and career transition. I highly recommend the workshop.”

Enneagram Recap
Dr. Connie Popp lead our recent workshop held in Milwaukee, “Enneagram: Journey to Spiritual Center.” The Enneagram is an ancient description of nine personality types, offers insights into the virtues and vices that affect our interactions with others. The object of personality exploration is not to assess blame but to enrich our lives through self-knowledge, making us better at coping with differences and truly appreciating them.
A few comments from participants:
Connie gave a clear and concise outline of the Enneagram, it’s philosphy, history, and practical applications. She provided a comfortable yet stimulating learning environment. The experience made me curious to learn more.
M.G., Milwaukee WI
I really got a lot out of the workshop! It helped me to know myself better and know why I respond the way I do to life along with understanding better the people I live and work with. Connie was a great presenter!
